If there's one thing Popeyes customers have in common, it's a dislike for seeing their favourite products depart from the menu.
Popeyes stated in February that Cajun Rice, one of the most recognisable side dishes honouring the company's Cajun roots, would be phased out.
On Twitter, Popeyes fans pronounced the rice to be the best side dish on the menu, and petitions were created to bring it back.
And now, as part of Popeyes' 50th anniversary celebration, those same fans may finally rejoice: the rice is back. For a short period, the side dish is available nationally starting today.
For those who haven't had Popeyes Cajun Rice, it's made with minced beef, bell pepper, onion, garlic, celery, and cayenne pepper, along with Cajun and Creole seasonings.
Most establishments charge $3.49 for it. Biscuits, Coleslaw, Red Beans & Rice, Mashed Potatoes with Cajun Gravy, Homestyle Mac & Cheese, and Cajun Fries are among the chain's other regular sides.
Popeyes will be providing five pieces of crispy chicken for $6.99, as well as a new dessert, to coincide with the reintroduction of the iconic Cajun Rice (previously known as "Rice Dressing").
In a deep-fried crust, the Strawberry Cheesecake Fried Pie will be filled with a creamy cheesecake and graham cracker mixture. It will be offered in most locations for a short time at a suggested price of $1.99.
To further commemorate its 50th birthday, the chain is inviting long-lasting couples, or their family members and friends, to nominate their love stories via direct message on Twitter or by sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
